As Peter walked along the dike,
He heard a dreaded sound . . .
The trickle of leaking water,
That caused his heart to pound!
He hurried down the dike’s steep side
And did not hesitate
To use his arm to fill the hole
Before it was too late.
The darkness settled around him;
All night alone he stayed,
Holding back the angry sea,
That his country might be saved.
When no one else could save us,
Nor hold back dark judgment’s tide,
The Son of God stepped in between
When He was crucified.
