The Second Message

GEN 18:20-22²⁰And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; ²¹I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. ²²And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord. (Genesis 18:20‑22)

Their sin is very grievous. . . . And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom.

(Genesis 18:20‑22)

The second message was sad news. God was going to destroy Sodom and everything in it because they openly practiced homosexuality. The Lord Himself was going there to investigate for Himself and if what He saw was true, He would destroy them all. Why did the Lord tell Abraham? Because Abraham was His friend, and He trusted him to be a faithful father and leader of his family. I think we see, too, that the Lord was testing Abraham’s compassion. We’ll see that on Monday.
