The True Church: Back Cover

Without doubt, Christians today are confused about the Church. Hundreds of denominations are in existence the world over; many exist, often side by side, in every sizable town—all claiming to be the true Church. The popular slogan, "Attend the Church of your choice" implicitly accepts this condition, assumes that the Word of God fails to pre-pare us for these times and give direction within this confusion, and implies that the choice may be a frivolous one—of little importance and consequence.
But did the Lord Jesus intend His followers to be left in such a state of confusion? As Hamilton Smith so ably points out, clearly not. Mr. Smith goes directly to the Scriptures to show what God says about His Church.
In his direct, intense style, Mr. Smith defines the Church, explains its origin, its composition, its privileges, its responsibilities, and its glorious destiny. He presents the Church in its various aspects—as the House of Gal and as the Body of Christ. The final chapter speaks of the Church in the day of ruin—surely its present state—and shows the Christian his responsibilities even in such a condition. Mr. Smith's great knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures make this book well worth the reading for every serious Christian.
