Sound doctrine is true Bible teaching. The teachers were mixing Christian teaching with Jewish ideas. It was like mixing fresh food with old food gone bad. Paul told Titus to speak sound doctrine so the Christians would become spiritually healthy. All Christians, old or young, servants or employees, need to have godly lives so they can be a spiritual help to one another in Christian living. We need to read the Bible and listen to the Word of God when it is being taught, so we can learn. After learning the truth of God, we should practice what we have learned. If you want others to listen to you when you speak about the Lord, you need to live like a Christian. In Titus 2:10, to “adorn the doctrine” means to believe and practice what you have learned.
We cannot earn our salvation. Salvation is a gift that is brought to us by the grace of God. The same grace of God also teaches us to live godly, holy lives without mixing Christianity with the music, pleasures, desires and ideas of the world.
The Christian has two things he is looking forward to: first — the blessed hope when Christ will come as the bridegroom to take the believers to heaven; second — the glorious appearing when Christ will come back as king, with the believers, to reign over the earth.
Jesus suffered and died to redeem us and set us free from the penalty of sin. He purified for Himself a people with clean hearts who are zealous, or eager, to do good works.
