There are three principles of God’s actions in regard to man. The
first
is before us: “I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely” (
Rev. 21:6
6
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. (Revelation 21:6)
). God is a giver [compare, “Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give Me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water. ... Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (
John 4:10,14
10
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. (John 4:10)
14
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (John 4:14)
)].
Second
, He will give to every thirsty soul, and He will give him not only of the water of life, but of the fountain itself. The announcement is made in view of the full end of receiving it, namely, eternal satisfaction and blessedness.
Third
, He will give it freely, gratuitously—without money and without price. Truly our God is the God of grace!
