297. When All Thy Mercies, O My God
C.M.
by J. Addison, 1712
When all Thy mercies, O my God,
Transported with the view, I’m lost
In wonder, love and praise.
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us.” (Ephesians 2:4)
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3)
“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” (2 Peter 1:3)
2
Unnumbered comforts to my soul
Thy tender care bestowed,
Before my infant heart conceived
From whom those comforts flowed.
3
Ten thousand thousand precious gifts
Nor is the least a cheerful heart
To taste those gifts with joy.
4
Through every period of my life
Thy goodness I’ll pursue;
The desert past, in glory bright,
The precious theme renew.
5
Through all eternity to Thee
A joyful song I’ll raise;
But, oh! eternity’s too short
