BlessingsPart 2

As we said yesterday, there are times when we may even forget to be thankful for the wonderful mercies of God’s redeeming grace, and all that has been provided for us through the work of His beloved Son at Calvary.

Paul and Silas, though they were beaten, thrown in prison, and their feet placed in stocks, could still rejoice in the Lord, knowing, that in spite of present circumstances, His lovingkindness was still the same. I have sometimes wondered if they remembered the Old Testament Scripture, “At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto Thee because of Thy righteous judgments” (Psalm 119:62).

In any case we read, “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them” (Acts 16:25). May we learn from their example, and from the testimony of Benjamin Weir, to count our blessings no matter what our trials or circumstances may be. We have many reason to rejoice, and everything to be thankful for. Are we truly “giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20)?
