Dear Young Christian:

Here I am on the boat between Union Island and Saint Vincent. We have just pulled into the Island of Canouan to unload supplies and pick up more passengers. We are already a couple of hours late, which is very normal down in this corner of the world. For a guy like me, who likes punctuality and seeing things run on time, it can often be very frustrating. Thankfully, I have the assurance that God’s timetable is always perfect. “For there is a time there for every purpose and for every work” (Ecclesiastes 3:17).

Perhaps your plans will be changed, thwarted, or even cancelled this week. Don’t let it discourage or dishearten you. Take it from your loving God and Father, knowing that His plans and timetable are really the best. When the Lord Jesus was here on earth, He submitted to the perfect timetable of His Father. On occasion, He could say, “My time is not yet come” (John 7:6). How good if we can have that same attitude, and echo like David, “My times are in Thy hand” (Psalm 31:15).

 Your Christian Friend,

 Jim Hyland

We would love to hear from you.
