A Lamp & Light

“For Thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness” (2 Samuel 22:29).
“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light
unto my path”
(Psalm 119:105).

The thought in the word “lamp” is “candle,”which word could be inserted in both of the above verses to replace the word “lamp.” The Lord and His Word are both candle and light to us. A candle gives enough light for one step at a time. This is the life of faith. It is light for each step, day by day.

But the Lord also lightens our darkness and His Word lights our path. This is a shining light, obliterating the darkness and illuminating our way. The Word shows us where the path leads and how it ends. It is sufficient light for the whole journey. “The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:18).

At times the way is daunting, but God’s Word and God Himself will lighten our journey through the valley. Trust in Him at all times and for every situation. “Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8).
