“They”

“They stripped Him” (Matthew 27:28).

“They…platted a crown of thorns” (Matthew 27:29).

“They spit upon Him” (Matthew 27:30).

“They…mocked Him” (Matthew 27:31).

“They put on Him a purple robe” (John 19:2).

“They took Jesus, and led Him away” (John 19:16).

“They crucified Him” (John 19:18).

“They watched Him” (Matthew 27:36).

Yes, what awful things “they” did to God’s Son. The hatred of man’s heart against God was fully exposed like never before. But how wonderful that, through it all, the Lord Jesus had one object and goal–to do the will of God and offer Himself as that great sacrifice. There was one thing that “they” could not do, and that was to take His life. He had previously stated, “Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of My Father” (John 10:17-18). He is indeed “Our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave Himself for us” (Titus 2:13-14).
