Twice Saved

“Who then can be saved” (Luke 18:26)?
“Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord
shall be saved”
(Acts 2:21).

Perhaps one of the most miraculous stories ever told took place at Niagara Falls on a Saturday afternoon, July 9, 1960. A man from Niagara Falls, New York took two children for a boat ride in the upper Niagara River. The boat developed motor trouble, capsized into the river and all three were thrown into the upper rapids. The man went over the Falls and was killed. At the same time, the 17-year-old girl was pulled out of the water only 20 feet from the very edge of the Falls and her younger brother, wearing only a life jacket and a bathing suit, went over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. He came out alive to tell his story. His name was Roger Woodward.

The tourist boat, “Maid of the Mist,” happened to be at the bottom of the falls and the captain heard Roger crying, “Help! Help!” A life ring was thrown to him. He grabbed it and was hauled to safety.

A year later, he accepted Christ as his Savior. Later on, as a young man, he said, “I guess the Lord saved me the first time so that I could be saved a second time.”
