The Touch of The Master’s HandPart 1

“And Jesus came and touched them, and said,
Arise, and be not afraid.”
(Matthew 17:7).

Probably best known for the poem “The Master’s Hand” written in 1921, Myra Brooks Welch was born in the late 19th Century in America. One day, Dr. Hurbert Davidson visited the noted poetess. As he was about to leave her home she patted the arm of her wheelchair and said, “I thank God for this.” Imagine being grateful for a wheelchair! But her talent lay undiscovered prior to her wheelchair days. Rather than becoming bitter, she chose a better way, and a wonderful ministry opened new doors of blessing for her. As a result, her poems have blessed the whole world.

Myra Welch would say that she heard a speaker address a group of students on the power of God to bring out the best in people. She said she became filled with light and that the “Touch of the Master’s Hand” was written in 30 minutes!

The finished poem was sent anonymously to the editor of her local church news bulletin. She felt it was a gift from God and didn’t need her name on it.

Over the next few days, we will view her poem for your encouragement and blessing as well.
