Dear Young Christian: From the window of my 9th floor room in Shobra, Greater Cairo, I can view building after building, as far as the eye can see. Somewhere beyond is the Nile River and the great pyramids of Giza. My view and experience of things today is very different than what the Israelites saw and experienced. Yet, I have the same God that they had … the very God who could say, “I have surely seen the affliction of My people which are in Egypt” (Exodus 3:7). He is no less caring today than He was then, and — just as His eye was on His people millenniums ago, and just as He knew and understood what they were passing through — so it is today. God’s eye rests upon me, and I know He loves, cares, and fully understands me. Wherever you are today, whatever you are doing, and whatever your circumstances may be, you can say like Hagar, “Thou God seest me” (Genesis 16:13). Hagar was thankful that God saw her plight and that of her son. We too, can be thankful that God sees us at all times and in all places.
