Wonderful — Part 2
“But the men marvelled, saying,
What manner of man is this” (Matthew 8:27)?
Jesus is Wonderful in what He is.
Even the angels must have wondered to see the Son of God, the Creator and the one who sustains the universe, whom they all worship, lying in a manger as a little baby. Listen to what they conveyed to the shepherds, “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11). And they must have truly wondered why there weren’t more in Israel genuinely interested in this momentous event. They were seeing this God incarnate for the first time.
Yet, I think they must have wondered more still when they saw Him “taken, and by wicked hands … crucified and slain” (Acts 2:23). They must have marveled indeed then at the love of Christ which passeth knowledge. Yet, He was not dying for them but for mankind, so that we may say, “The Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
