Singing

“The service of song in the house of the Lord”
(1 Chronicles 6:31).
“Serve the Lord with gladness: come before His presence with singing” (Psalm 100:2).

The service of song is something that we can all render to the Lord. He loves to hear our voice, and it thrills His heart every time there is a song from our heart on our lips. As we open our mouths in hymns of praise and worship today, let’s sing like we really mean it. And too, let’s think of the words we are singing. When the Apostle Paul sang, he wanted it to be intelligently, not just words he didn’t understand or think about. That’s what he meant when he said to the Christians at Corinth, “I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also” (1 Corinthians 14:15).

In this regard, we need to be sure we sing good, Scriptural, Christ-exalting hymns and spiritual songs that are doctrinally accurate. I am thankful that I grew up singing and learning hymns that were based on the Word of God.

Today, as we consider the person and work of Christ, let’s open our mouths in “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16). It brings glory to Him!
