RichesPart 1

Almost every young person has a very common aspirationto get rich. But here is what the Bible warns about such ambition: “Labor not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven” (Proverbs 23:4-5).

It is significant that the Spirit of God used the richest and wisest man of the time, Solomon, to give us this exhortation, and written at a time when God blessed His earthly people, Israel, with an abundance of wealth. Even then, it must have been evident as evil to have the heart set to gain riches. For, in this admonition, to obtain his desired goal there were many dangersone possibly being that of employing means not always honest and righteous before God. Or perhaps becoming independent of God, trusting in our own wisdom and ability.

No sooner does one set his heart upon riches than they take to themselves wings like the swiftest of birds and soar out of reach. Many who have done this have become disillusioned, disappointed, depressed, and despondent.
