Riches — Part 2
Here is what the Apostles Paul said to the young man Timothy concerning the matter of riches: “But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:9-10).
God has given many believers great wealth, and they are responsible to use it in a proper way for the furtherance of the gospel and to help those who are less fortunate. But the question is, what are we setting our hearts on? It is not wrong to be rich, but it is wrong to strive with that as our goal. Here is what the believer is to do: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:19-21). Treasure on earth is for time only, treasure in heaven is for eternity.
