An Anchor

“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil” (Hebrews 6:18-19).

A good anchor will keep a ship from drifting into danger and destruction when a storm rages. What is this hope which will hold the believer steady through the storms of life? What will steady our course when the waves and winds of tragedy and sorrow beat upon us, or the billows of doubt and hardship buffet our hearts and minds? It is God’s immutable (unchangeable) Word! God’s promises to us! With the realization that it is impossible for God to lie, our faith, like an anchor’s chain, lays hold of these promises.

“For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” (2 Corinthians 1:20).

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4).
