No Greater Love

“Greater love hath no man than this” (John 15:13).

There has never been a more striking example of self-sacrifice motivated by love in the whole history of the world than the death of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross. To be sure, mutual affection between two individuals has led to attempts to rescue people in danger that border on the heroic. Many have made great sacrifices in the field of medicine and science that have saved many lives, and many have even given their lives in the service of, and for, the freedom of humanity.

How thankful we should be for the death of Christ. It is the ground and basis of all our blessing. Apart from that, we would be doomed, and on our way to hell. “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8).

What a truth to meditate on today! How wonderful to be able to say, “He died for me!”
