Rumors — Part 2 Here is a follow-up to yesterday’s meditation: On the dining room wall of the summer camp I used to attend as a young person, there was a timely motto. Here is what it said: A GOSSIP IS A PERSON WITH A SENSE OF RUMOR Here is the dictionary definition of the word Gossip: “Gossip: Casual conversation or unsubstantiated reports about other people, chiefly derogatory. A Gossip: A person who likes talking about other people’s private lives.” Now, hear what the Bible says on the matter: “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth” (James 3:5). “These … things doth the Lord hate … a lying tongue … A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren” (Proverbs 6:16-17, 19). “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile” (1 Peter 3:10).
