 In the Midst

“And let them make Me a sanctuary;
that I may dwell among them”
(Exodus 25:8).

This verse is the request of Israel’s God looking down on a redeemed and delivered people, desiring a place where He might dwell in their midst all through the wilderness journey. He knew that the day would come when the temple would be built at Jerusalem, and He would dwell in the midst of His people at that time when they were finally established in the land of Canaan. But He didn’t want to have to wait for that time, He wanted to be in their midst every step of the way.

For us today, it is not a matter of a physical building or a geographical place, but the Lord has promised, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). There is a time coming when we will be gathered around the Lord Jesus in the Father’s house. “And so shall we ever be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:17). But again, He does not want to wait for that time. He wants the joy of having His redeemed people gathered around Him while here in this world. Let’s give Him that joy today!
