Beginning & End
Everything in this life has a beginning and an end. So it is with the gospel.
“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God” (Mark 1:1). Mark presents to us the good news of the Lord Jesus, the Son of God coming into this world to give Himself as that great sacrifice on the cross. “For even the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). This is the beginning of the gospel; “That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15).
However, there is an end as well, a terrible end to those who refuse the gospel. Peter raises the question, “What shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17). The Bible doesn’t leave us in any doubt as to what that end is. “The end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs14:12). “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15). That’s why there is an appeal, “O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!” (Deuteronomy 32:29).
