Abide in Christ “Abide in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4). While reading a book recently — written by a commentator by the name of Hamilton Smith — on the first epistle of John, I was struck by the following definition: “To abide in Christ is… 1. To see Him by faith. 2. To know Him by experience. 3. To walk under His influence.” The results of the reality of this in our life are at least threefold: “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in Me” (John 15:4). “If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7). “Herein is My Father glorified” (John 15:8). Let’s ask ourselves today, How much is this really and practically true of us?
