Pleasing the Lord

“Walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing”
(Colossians 1:10).

Do you really seek to please the Lord in your daily life? Is this your first concern in matters of decision both large and small?

When writing to Timothy, Paul uses the analogy of a believer being like a soldier enlisted in the army. He says, “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier” (2 Timothy 2:3-4). How much is this true of you? The world teaches us to look out for number one, to please ourselves, and, whatever we want to do, just do it. But this is not the way we are to live as a believer. There is only one way of happiness and fruitfulness, and that is the way that is pleasing to the Lord. Notice the rest of Colossians 1:10, as well as the following verse to see the results of pleasing the Lord: “Being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.”
