Criticism

Recently, I found great comfort in a quote from an old book titled, “Food for the Desert”:

“If God sets a person in a certain position, and gives them a work to do, and their fellow Christians think proper to quarrel with them simply on the score of their doing their work, and filling that position, then their quarrel really is with God, who knows how to settle it, and will do it in His own way. The assurance of this gives holy calmness and moral elevation to those who work for the Lord, in a moment when envious and turbulent individuals rise up against them.”

Very simply, what this article is saying is that, if God has given us a service to do, we should do it in spite of whatever criticism we may experience. We don’t have to try and justify ourselves if we have the assurance in our heart that we are doing His will. That is not to say that others may not have good advice and helpful suggestions, but, in the end, we want the Lord’s approval. The Apostle Paul was questioned and criticized by the believers at Corinth, but he responded by saying, “Wherefore we labor, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9).
