Dear Young Christian:

Here we are at the beginning of another week of school, work, and interacting with the world. Here is a good verse to consider as we start out as believers: “Let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear” (Hebrews 12:28).

Someone has said, “Acceptable service is doing God’s work God’s way.” To come up with your own work and way of carrying it out, and then say that you’re working for the Lord is not the Lord’s work at all. You don’t work for an earthly employer that way. No, you would soon get fired.

Spend time in prayer asking the Lord what He wants you to do for Him. It may not be what you expected, but you’ll get a reward for it if it’s done in reverence and godly fear. Take to heart the Apostle Paul’s exhortation: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1).

Your Christian Friend,

Jim Hyland

We would love to hear from you.
