Sacrifice

History is filled with many people young and old who have made sacrifices of one sort or anothersome great, some small. Many have even made the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives in the service and freedom of humanity. The Lord Himself said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

But the greatest and most consequential sacrifice ever made in this world was the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus when He went to Calvary’s cross. Here is what the Bible says about that supreme sacrifice:

“Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor” (Ephesians 5:2).

“Once in the end of the world hath He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself” (Hebrews 9:26).

“This man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God” (Hebrews 10:12).

It is so good for us to look back today and remember that wonderful event, and to never forget the sacrifice of Calvary.
