The Fool

“The fool has said in his heart, There is no God”
(Psalm 53:1).

To be a fool is to be without common sense, without wisdom. The wise man will contemplate creation and marvel. He sees the way Planet Earth orbits the sun at just the right distance to sustain life. He delights in the great seas and lakes without which no life would survive. He is amazed at the countless species of plant and animal life. He studies his own body and marvellous brain, and stands in awe. All of this proclaims a Creator, infinitely wise and powerful. The wise man recognises his responsibility to his Creator, and bows before him confessing his sin, and receives full and free salvation.

Only a fool will say that there is no God. Do not be a fool. Come to know God through the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord told a story of a man who had no time for God, nor did he recognise that his prosperity and the good things that he enjoyed in life were from the Creator. The conclusion of the matter was this: “But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided” (Luke 12:20).

A Rich FatherPart 3

Here is what the Lord Jesus said on the matter of our Heavenly Father knowing what is best:

“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?” (Matthew 7:11)

Our Father knows what is the best,

And though He wealthy be,

He only gives us what we need,

Not every whim and plea.

What we consider to be good,

He may view different still,

It may not be for blessing, or

According to His will.

And so we leave it to Himself,

And thank Him every day,

Not only for the things He gives,

But what He takes away.

A Rich FatherPart 2

“My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Learn to accept your Father’s wisdom in this matter. He has promised to supply all our needs not all our wants. There is a vast difference in the two. So often we have trouble sorting out what are really needs, and what are just wants. But our Father knows and knows perfectly.

There is a day coming when the children of God are going to share in all the vast inheritance of creation, and a day when we will enter into and enjoy fully “the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8). “We are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and jointheirs with Christ” (Romans 8:16-17).

In the meantime let’s be content with what He gives us, and thankful for what He withholds from us, knowing that He really does know what is for our best. He loves us so much, too much to give us everything we want!

Yes, indeed we have a rich Father, but He is also a wise Father. Don’t forget that very important truth.

A Rich FatherPart 1

“Every beast of the forest is Mine, and
the cattle upon a thousand hills”
(Psalm 50:10).

I have a rich Father! Not an earthly father, but a Heavenly Father. All belongs to Him! He is the Creator of it all, and He is the one who maintains it as well.

However, that does not mean that He gives me everything I want. What would you think of a father who had the means, and who gave his children everything they wanted even if it was not for their good, and maybe even for their hurt? “No,” you would say, “that father really doesn’t love his children.” Just so with God our Father. He knows what is best. Has He withheld something from you that you wanted or thought you should have? Trust Him that He sees it’s not for your good and blessing. As earthly fathers we make mistakes in giving and withholding, but our Father in heaven makes no mistakes. He knows perfectly what is best. It is not that He doesn’t have the means or resources to give it to us, but He knows that it is not for our benefit. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17).

Seeds Of Kindness

Have you sown some seeds of kindness,

As you hurry on your way?

Will you point someone to Jesus,

Will you speak for Him today?

Do you take the time to listen,

To a soul who needs an ear?

Will you bring some weary person,

Precious Scriptures that will cheer?

There are many who are fainting,

Young and old who’ve gone astray,

Let’s be vessels for the Master,

Bring them comfort, read, and pray.

Then just ask yourself each morning,

And again at close of day:

Have you sown some seeds of kindness,

As you hurried on your way?

“In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good” (Ecclesiastes 11:6).

Dear Young Christian:

Perhaps this past weekend you attended some Bible meetings, or you were somewhere the Word of God was read and explained. Now as you head out for another busy week at school or work, the question is, what are you going to do with what you heard? Are you going to forget it, neglect it, go contrary to it, or by the grace of God, KEEP it?

When the Lord was here on earth He stressed the fact that it was not only important to hear the Word but to keep it. On one occasion He reminded those who were following and listening to His words, that, “Blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it” (Luke 11:28).

James gives us a similar exhortation. “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was” (James 1:22-24). Let’s be doers and not just hearers!

 Your Christian Friend,

 Jim Hyland

We would love to hear from you. Send your comments or questions to jhyland@primus.ca

The Father’s Love

“Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colors” (Genesis 37:3).

What a beautiful Old Testament picture this verse is of the love of God the Father for His Son Jesus Christ. So often we consider the love of the Father and the Son for us, and that is certainly a wonderful theme. But there is something even greater to consider; something that will touch a deeper chord of worship and praise from our hearts, and that is the love of the Father for His beloved Son. Three times in John’s gospel we are told of the love of the Father for the Son:

“The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into His hand” (John 3:35).

“For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth Him all things that Himself doeth: and He will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel” (John 5:20).

“Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again” (John 10:17).

What stupendous love! May it touch our hearts today.

No Hope

“That at that time ye were without Christhaving no hope, and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12).

Hope is an indispensable quality of life! Someone has said that if you could convince a man there is no hope, he would curse the day he was born.

Years ago the S-4 submarine was rammed by another ship and quickly sank. The entire crew was trapped in its prison house of death. Ships rushed to the scene of disaster off the coast of Massachusetts. We don’t know what took place down in that sunken submarine, but we can be sure that the men clung bravely to life as the oxygen slowly gave out. A diver went down and placed his helmeted ear to the side of the vessel and listened. He heard a tapping noise as someone tapped out a question in the dots and dashes of Morse Code, “Isthereanyhope?”

This seems to be the cry of humanity: “Is there any hope?” Yes, thankfully, there is hopehope in Christ! Is this hope a reality with you? Can you join with others to say, “God our Savior, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope” (1 Timothy 1:1).

Hope

Here is a statement that gives courage and comfort, even in times of desperate need and trial:

“No one is hopeless whose hope is in God!”

Here are some verses from the Bible to prove it:

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God” (Psalm 42:11).

“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast” (Hebrews 6:18-19).

“For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it”
(Romans 8:24-25).

“Now the GOD OF HOPE fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost” (Romans 15:13).

Delivered

“Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses” (Psalm 107:6).

There are two parts to this verse that are worthy of our consideration.

First, there is a turning to the Lord in a time of trouble and difficulty. Thankfully, the believer can always go to the Lord, knowing that His ear is open, and that He is able for whatever the situation is. As another Psalm expresses it, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

Second, He delivers them from their “distresses.” Notice, it does not say that He delivers from their “troubles,” but from their “distresses.” The Lord does not always promise to remove the troubles and difficulties from the life of a believer, but there is a peace and calm that is promised when we commit our way into His hands and trust Him for every circumstance. We don’t have to be distressed!

Someone gave me a key-chain the other day. The motto on it said,:

“I’m too blessed to be stressed.”

Something to think about, isn’t it?
