The Rock

“The Lord is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge” (Psalm 94:22).

“The Lord: the rock of our salvation” (Psalm 95:1).

“In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength” (Psalm 62:7).

When I was growing up I used to often hear my parents refer to something as being “solid as the Rock of Gibraltar.” Today, there is a major financial and insurance institution in the United States that uses the Rock of Gibraltar as their corporate emblem.

However, anyone who follows the world markets and knows anything about today’s economic situation will have to admit that there are very few if any financial guarantees in today’s world of instability. That’s why we need to be resting on Christ the Rock. The prophet Isaiah said, “And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land” (Isaiah 32:2). Here, and only here is true stability and assurance for the future, whether in this life or that which is ahead in the next life.
