Dear Young Christian:

This morning I would like to give you a hint as to effective study of the Word of God:

The Old Testament should be read and understood in light of the New Testament. The Old Testament prophets did not themselves understand, but searched the Scriptures to see what they meant. “Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow” (1 Peter 10-11).

That is why it is helpful every day, to read a portion of the New Testament along with a portion of the Old Testament. We can then, “Bring forth the old because of (or in light of) the new” (Leviticus 26:10). The Old Testament contains the illustrations and pictures that help us to see clearly the teachings and doctrines of the New Testament.
