With Us Always
Do you sometimes take the intimate nearness of the Lord for granted? I know I do! Yet, my Lord has promised, “Lo, I am with you alway” (Matthew 28:20). “For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).
No other friend or family member can be with you every moment of every day … that is utterly impossible! No, and no other friend or family member can fully know the intimacies of your heart and mind. Our Lord Jesus knows everything about us, and still loves us, cares for us, sympathizes with us, and never leaves us alone. He says, “But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows” (Luke 12:7).
I have read and heard of many who have spent their whole life, and much of their resources trying to find someone who they feel really understands them. A companion, a doctor, a spouse … and yet the Lord knows us through and through. No wonder Charles Wesley wrote that beautiful hymn, beginning with the lines,
“Jesus Lover of my soul,
Let me to Thy bosom fly.”
