1. Son of Reuel, a son of Esau, and one of the dukes of Edom (Gen. 36:13,17¹³And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife. (Genesis 36:13)
¹⁷And these are the sons of Reuel Esau's son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife. (Genesis 36:17); 1 Chron. 1:37³⁷The sons of Reuel; Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. (1 Chronicles 1:37)).

2. Father of Jobab one of the early kings of Edom (Gen. 36:33³³And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead. (Genesis 36:33); 1 Chron. 1:44⁴⁴And when Bela was dead, Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead. (1 Chronicles 1:44)). Perhaps the same family as No. 1.

3. Son of Judah. See ZARA.

4. Son of Simeon (Num. 26:13¹³Of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites: of Shaul, the family of the Shaulites. (Numbers 26:13); 1 Chron. 4:24²⁴The sons of Simeon were, Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Shaul: (1 Chronicles 4:24)). Called ZOHAR (Gen. 46:10¹⁰And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman. (Genesis 46:10); Ex. 6:15¹⁵And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman: these are the families of Simeon. (Exodus 6:15)).

5. Son of Iddo, or Adaiah, a Gershonite (1 Chron. 6:21,41²¹Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeaterai his son. (1 Chronicles 6:21)
⁴¹The son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, (1 Chronicles 6:41)).

6. King of Ethiopia, or a general in the Egyptian army, who came against Asa with a million troops and three hundred chariots. His army was smitten by Jehovah, and Asa took much spoil (2 Chron. 14:9-15⁹And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah. ¹⁰Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. ¹¹And Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said, Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee. ¹²So the Lord smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled. ¹³And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the Lord, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil. ¹⁴And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the Lord came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them. ¹⁵They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
