Compare Gen. 50.15,17. Lit. "showed me," but we do not say "show evil" in English, though we say "show kindness," referring to acts, because they show what is in the heart.

Alexander, the coppersmith, dida many evil things against me: the Lord will renderb to him according to his works;

WK Translation Notes

Lit., "showed."

The critical text, which follows on the highest authority, gives the correct spirit. That this verb should be turned into the optative, as in the common text, falls in with Jewish feeling. On the other hand, that the Lord will render him according to his works is a certain truth which every Christian conscience must feel.
