(wild ass). (1) A valorous Benjamite (1 Chron. 8:15¹⁵And Zebadiah, and Arad, and Ader, (1 Chronicles 8:15)). (2) A royal city of the Canaanites (Num. 21:1¹And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners. (Numbers 21:1); Josh. 12:14¹⁴The king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; (Joshua 12:14)).

A royal city of the Canaanites, in the south, near Mount Hor, whose king fought against Israel, but who was by the help of God destroyed, both he and his people (Num. 21:1-3¹And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners. ²And Israel vowed a vow unto the Lord, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities. ³And the Lord hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah. (Numbers 21:1‑3); Num. 33:40⁴⁰And king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the children of Israel.
