This is literally a table, and mostly so translated, and which could be used for any purpose (Luke 19:2323Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? (Luke 19:23)). In Matthew 25:2727Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. (Matthew 25:27) a kindred word is translated “exchangers”; both passages imply that there were in those days, as now, those who received and lent money on interest.
