This name occurs but once in the list of insects which the Israelites were allowed to eat, and is generally held to be a species of locust (Lev. 11:2222Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind.
