Bitter Herbs

No particular herbs are specified by name, indeed the word “herbs” is added in the AV, so that it is literally “bitterness.” The paschal lamb was to be eaten with “bitter herbs,” doubtless signifying the sense in the souls of those partaking that it was for their sins the victim was slain (Ex. 12:88And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. (Exodus 12:8); Num. 9:1111The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. (Numbers 9:11)).
