Arrow, short spear, javelin (2 Sam. 18:14¹⁴Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak. (2 Samuel 18:14); 2 Chron. 32:5⁵Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance. (2 Chronicles 32:5); Job 41:26, 29²⁶The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. (Job 41:26)
²⁹Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear. (Job 41:29); Prov. 7:23²³Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life. (Proverbs 7:23)). FIERY DARTS signify darts tipped with combustible material which ignite in the projection or percussion and burn as well as pierce (Eph. 6:16¹⁶Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Ephesians 6:16): Compare Psa. 120:4⁴Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. (Psalm 120:4)). The Christian needs the shield of faith to quench such darts of the wicked one.
