APRIL 23
Jacob  .  .  .  worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.
The Lord had touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh and weakened him, just at the time when he was preparing to fight his brother Esau. His strength was taken from him when he needed it most. This made him more dependent on God. Ever after, Jacob’s staff would be a reminder of his handicap; but we find Jacob at the end of his life worshipping, leaning on the top of that staff. Our weakeners, also, are given to us to make us more dependent on the Lord and to draw us closer to Him.
