 19{i}Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession is unclean, come over into the land of the possession of Jehovah, where Jehovah's tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession amongst us; but rebel not against Jehovah, and rebel not against us, in building for yourselves an altar besides the altar of Jehovah our God.{/i}

 25{i}Jehovah hath made the Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad, ye have no portion in Jehovah! And so shall your children make our children cease from fearing Jehovah.{/i}
 26{i}And we said, Let us now set to work to build an altar, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice,{/i}
 27{i}but to be{/i} a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of Jehovah before Him with our burnt-offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in Jehovah.
 28{i}And we said, If it shall be that in future they so say to us and to our generations, we will say, Behold the pattern of the altar of Jehovah which our fathers made, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice, but as a witness between us and you.{/i}
 29{i}Far be it from us that we should rebel against Jehovah, and turn this day from following Jehovah, in building an altar for burnt-offering, for oblation, and for sacrifice, besides the altar of Jehovah our God that is before his tabernacle.{/i}
 30{i}And when Phinehas the priest and the princes of the assembly and the heads of the thousands of Israel that were with him heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spoke, it was good in their sight.{/i}
 31{i}And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we perceive that Jehovah is among us, because ye have not committed this trespass against Jehovah: now have ye delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of Jehovah.{/i}
 32{i}And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, to the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.{/i}
 33{i}And the thing was good in the sight of the children of Israel, and the children of Israel blessed God, and no more said that they would go up in warfare against them, to destroy the land in which the children of Reuben and the children of Gad dwelt.{/i}

Judg. 20:1,2‑17• 1Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, {i}from Dan to Beer-sheba, and the land of Gilead, unto Jehovah at Mizpah.{/i}
 2{i}And the heads of all the people, of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the congregation of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.{/i}
 3{i}And the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah. And the children of Israel said, Tell us, how was this wickedness?{/i}
 4{i}Then the Levite, the husband of the woman that was murdered, answered and said, I came to Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.{/i}
 5{i}And the citizens of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house because of me, by night; they thought to slay me, and my concubine have they humbled so that she died.{/i}
 6{i}Then I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and villany in Israel.{/i}
 7{i}Behold, all ye, children of Israel, deliberate and give here your counsel.{/i}
 8{i}And all{/i} the people rose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn into his house.
 9But now this shall be the thing which we will do to Gibeah; we will go up by lot against it;
 10and we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
 11So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
 12And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?
 13Now therefore deliver us the men, the children of Belial, which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But the, children of Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel:
 14but the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
 15{i}And the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities, twenty-six thousand men that drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.{/i}
 16{i}Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; all these slang stones at a hair breadth, and missed not.{/i}
