• The people, on approaching to the battle, were to be addressed, first, by the priest, and secondly, by the officers. This order is very beautiful. • {v.2-4} The priest was the very expression of the grace of God; his ministry a stream of most precious consolation flowing from the loving heart of the God of Israel to each individual warrior. His loving words were designed and fitted to gird up the loins of the mind, and nerve the feeblest arm for fight. He assures them of the divine presence with them. There is no question, no condition, no “if,” no “but.” It is an unqualified statement Jehovah Elohim was with them. (“Deuteronomy 20” by C.H. Mackintosh)
