One of the common sins of mankind. We read of it as early as Noah (
Gen. 9:21

And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. (Genesis 9:21)
). Its grave character is shown in the New Testament by the drunkard being classed along with fornicators, thieves, idolaters, etc., and the declaration that no drunkard shall inherit the kingdom of God (
1 Cor. 5:11

But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. (1 Corinthians 5:11)
