A people, described as “great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims,” who dwelt on the east of the Dead Sea. They were smitten by Chedorlaomer and his confederate kings, and their land eventually passed to the Moabites, who called the people EMIM, that is, “terrible” (Gen. 14:5⁵And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim, (Genesis 14:5); Deut. 2:10-11¹⁰The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; ¹¹Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims. (Deuteronomy 2:10‑11)).
