 But how could he accept any kind of consolation while his people stood in such peril? The feelings that filled his heart were much like those of Asaph: "O God, why hast Thou cast us off for ever? . . . Remember Thy congregation . . . . And Esther’s maids and her chamberlains came and told it her; and the queen was exceedingly grieved: and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him; but he received it not.
