(clay). (1) A city of Egypt identified with Pelusium, “town of clay or mud,” on eastern mouth of Nile near the sea (Ezek. 30:15-16¹⁵And I will pour my fury upon Sin, the strength of Egypt; and I will cut off the multitude of No. ¹⁶And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be rent asunder, and Noph shall have distresses daily. (Ezekiel 30:15‑16)). (2) A desert portion of Arabia between Gulf of Suez and Sinai (Ex. 16:1; 17:1¹And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. (Exodus 16:1)

(Numbers 33:11‑12)). It was in this wilderness that the Israelites were first fed with manna and quails. It skirts the eastern coast of the gulf for a distance of 25 miles.

City in Egypt; the LXX has Σάϊς, and the Vulgate (as in the margin), Pelusium. Ezekiel calls it “the strength of Egypt” (Ezek. 30:15-16¹⁵And I will pour my fury upon Sin, the strength of Egypt; and I will cut off the multitude of No. ¹⁶And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be rent asunder, and Noph shall have distresses daily. (Ezekiel 30:15‑16)). It is supposed to be identified with the modern Tineh, where a few ruins are found. It is close to the Pelusiac mouth of the Nile, about 31° 4' N, 32° 28' E.
