1. challamish, “hard rock,” out of which water was brought (Deut. 8:1515Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint; (Deuteronomy 8:15); Psalm 114:88Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters. Christ, because of His opposers, set His face like a flint, and He knew He should not be ashamed (Isa. 50:77For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. (Isaiah 50:7)). God made Jacob to suck oil out of the flinty rock (Deut. 32:1313He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; (Deuteronomy 32:13)).
2. tsor, “rock.” God made Ezekiel's forehead as an adamant, harder than flint, because of the obduracy of Israel (Ezek. 3:99As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. (Ezekiel 3:9)). The horses' hoofs of God's executors of judgment shall be like flint (Isa. 5:2828Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind: (Isaiah 5:28)).
