Used symbolically for Satan, from whose snares God delivers His saints (Psa. 91:3³Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. (Psalm 91:3); Psa. 124:7⁷Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. (Psalm 124:7); Prov. 6:5⁵Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler. (Proverbs 6:5)). In the punishment of Israel their prophets became as the snare of the fowler (Hos. 9:8⁸The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God. (Hosea 9:8)).
