"He Thought About the Past."

WHILST hospital the other day, for the purpose of distributing Gospel books amongst the soldiers, the writer gave a small book, the title of which was “He Thought About the Past,” to a convalescent soldier walking in the grounds, and passed on. The soldier glanced at the title, and in ‘a moment all his past life seemed to appear before his mind. He followed the writer into one of the wards, and said: “If you are not in a hurry, I would like you to sit down and talk to me.” He had lived a godless life, and now he was home wounded for the fourth time. God undoubtedly was speaking to his soul, and it was a joy to point him to the Saviour. He sobbed as he related his experiences, but he was not too guilty for the Saviour. None who come to the Lord Jesus Christ will He refuse. Why? Because it is His great delight to bless, and the more sinful the person is whom the Lord blesses, the greater is the grace expressed. It was sinners the Lord came to save. When He was here on this earth He walked and talked with sinners, He made His grave with the wicked, and He entered Paradise with a thief. The chief of sinners has been saved (1 Tim. 1:1515This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. (1 Timothy 1:15)), and now you, my reader, may come and experience the grace of the Lord. Jesus Christ. There is nothing to do and there is nothing to pay.
All has been done by the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross when He gave Himself and shed His precious blood that sinners may know the blessedness of having their sins forgiven, peace with God, and hope of heaven. Your life may have been black, your sins many, but, with all affection, I would point you to the Saviour. He is able and willing to save you now.
