Doctors, nowadays, have many ways to diagnose physical heart issues. They may run ultrasounds, echocardiograms, PET scans, or even do a catheterization where they run a silky tube with a tiny camera in it through a vein and into the heart to take pictures. Technology has made it possible, in most cases of heart failure, to figure out exactly what is wrong.
God doesn’t need any technology to see what is going on in our hearts. Our hearts are the inmost part of our being from which all the issues of life flow. Our hearts enable us to love, rejoice and delight in what is good, beautiful and true, but when they are ill, they get full of hate, malice, murder, lust and darkness.
God knows exactly what is going on in your heart. He is infinite in wisdom and knowledge, and there is no hiding what is in your heart from Him.
Doctors have many ways to diagnose heart disease, but sadly, they don’t always have a way to treat it, and heart disease is still a leading cause of death.
FOOLPROOF TREATMENT PLAN
God does have a treatment and a foolproof plan for every heart that is sick with sin. His treatment has never failed. Nearly 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ was crucified and nailed to the cross. God’s foolproof plan is for sinners to look to Him in faith for the salvation of their souls. “Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:2222Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. (Isaiah 45:22)).
Looking to Jesus by faith involves looking away from the sins we once loved. Accepting God’s verdict on our behavior, instead of our prior thoughts about it, is called “repentance.” Those who repent find something much better to fill their hearts with — the living God!
FORGIVENESS
When people realize their lost condition and turn to God by faith, God forgives them and blots out their sins.
“Forgiveness, what a joyful sound for sinners doomed to die!” a songwriter wrote.
The sin which would have sunk them to hell after death is forgiven. God forgives them for Jesus’ sake because He hung on the cross, died and shed His blood to redeem them — buy them back — from sin and death.
A FULL HEART
Not only does God forgive sinners, but He comes to them and makes Himself known to them in the most marvelous way. The Author of everything good, beautiful and true comes to live in their hearts. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:2020I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)). They find in Him the one object that can satisfy their hearts.
Are you heartsick, lonely, loveless, drowning in life’s problems? Oh, look to Jesus! He knows your heart through and through. He died so you can be forgiven, and when you believe in Him, He will come into your heart and give you something infinitely better than sin to live for. He will give you Himself!
Oh, come to Him who came to give life to the world!
