(hymeneal). A convert and pervert (1 Tim. 1:20²⁰Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. (1 Timothy 1:20); 2 Tim. 2:17¹⁷And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymeneus and Philetus; (2 Timothy 2:17)).

One who had made shipwreck of faith. Paul, in his apostolic authority, had delivered him and Alexander unto Satan that they might learn not to blaspheme.
